It's made women wary and Benson's clients prefer female artists who feel safe and non-threatening. There are plenty of horror stories about male artists making inappropriate comments to female clients, harassing them or even sexually assaulting them.
Not only are female artists better at promoting themselves online, female clients are more likely to seek out women artists for their own safety. She has over 46,000 followers on Instagram and floods of fans are expected to queue for rare walk-up appointments with Benson at Rites of Passage tattoo festival in Sydney this weekend. "But influencing is how we sell these days." "Most of the male artists that I know don't show their faces on social media, they're not connecting with their client base," she says.
